I took on a multifaceted role for the Afghan American Conference opening video, beginning with crafting the voice-over script to encapsulate the essence of the organization’s theme and goals. As the writer, I carefully drafted compelling narration that set the tone and conveyed the conference's significance. In the production phase, I orchestrated the filming process, ensuring each shot captured the vibrancy and diversity of the Afghan American community. From coordinating interviews to scouting locations, I oversaw all aspects of production to ensure a cohesive and impactful final product. Finally, as the editor, I meticulously pieced together the footage, seamlessly weaving together visuals and narration to create a stirring and memorable opening video that set the stage for the conference's success.
I collaborated closely with Emmy-winning editor Stephen Prime on the trailer for the CBS sitcom United States of Al, ensuring the portrayal of an Afghan Muslim character for primetime television was authentic and impactful. Together, we meticulously selected shots that captured the essence of the character's journey, balancing cultural sensitivity with storytelling effectiveness. Through our collaboration and attention to detail, we crafted a trailer celebrating diversity and marking a significant milestone in television representation.
Not only did I help write this scene, but I worked closely with the director and editor to assist in shot selection and making sure everything sounded right when the actors spoke in Pashto.
I wrote this specific episode and for this scene, I guided 4-time Emmy winning set decorator Susan Mina Eschelbach on dressing this specific set using local Afghan bakeries and Afghan artists from around the world to create an authentic set up. I also worked closely with the director and editor to assist during the shoot.
